Aegean Turkey

The area known as Aegean Turkey occupies the western part of this country including the beautiful western coast that overlaps onto several bordering Greek islands as well as the Turkish coastline.

This area is made up of three main regions being Central Aegean, Northern Aegean and Southern Aegean. All of these regions have their own characterists and features ranging from historic cities, towns and villages, productive olive growing foundations, crystal clear sea water on the coastline, and varying local climates.

The Central Aegean area of Turkey is the location where there are several popular seaside and beach resorts that are favourite holiday destinations for visitors from the UK as well as Turkish residents. Three of these to mention are the resorts of Didim, Akbuk, and Altinkum. These holiday destinations appeal to all types of holiday makers whether they are looking for a peaceful break in Akbuk, a more lively holiday in Altinkum, or a combination of the two in Didim.

The Aegean coastline of Western Turkey is under pinned by a succession of modern cities now with palm-lined avenues and roads, towns and villages with old quarters and ancient ruins of what were once major powers of the Mediterranean in ancient times. The regions are surrounded with fertile valleys and mountain sides which are dotted with picture perfect villages and olive growing foundations.

The area is well known for the production of olive oil as well as wine and honey, helped to a large degree by it's favourable climate year round.

As far as history goes the Aegean Turkey regions offer the most number of ancient ruins and historical sites to be found in Turkey. Some now are nothing but ancient piles of old rubble and marble whilst others such as the site of Ephesus still display some of their former self.

These regions are serviced by several airports which are Bodrum, Izmir, and Dalaman. All handle domestic internal flights as well as International flights from Europe and Worldwide.

Rail transport is taken care of with the main rail hub being located in Izmir.

Kusadasi is a resort town in Aegean Turkey that features a citadel based on an island. It also is the place where cruise ships dock for passengers taking a holiday by this method. Kusadasi is also home to one of the largest water parks in the med, it is a key attraction for both UK as well as Turkish holiday makers.
